Project Viewer Server

Runs at the web server - Project information is viewed in any standard IE/Netscape/Mozilla browser.

Server-side application

The Housatonic Project Viewer for Web Server is a server-side application. The typical installation involves installation on a dedicated server or a PC acting as a server. Team members access the Project Viewer via an intranet or internet connection. No installation is necessary on any client workstations.

Client-side / Workstation Requirements

Any computer, using any operating system supporting Microsoft© Internet Explorer 6 (or newer), Mozilla Firefox 2.0 (or newer), Apple Safari 3.0 (or newer) may access Microsoft© Project Files using the Housatonic Web/Server via a network or internet connection. Assuming that the client computer has one of the aforementioned browsers installed, no installation or configuration is required on the client-side.

Server-side Requirements

The Housatonic Project Viewer for Web Server has the following requirements for installation on the server:

Operating System - Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008

Windows Components - Internet Information Server (IIS) versions 5 or higher*

Software Packages - Full .NET Framework version 4 or higher

Microsoft© XML Parser (MSXML) version 3.0 SP4 or higher

For IIS 7.0 and 7.5, IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility Components is required.

Housatonic Web Pre-installation Steps

For IIS 7.0 (Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008) and IIS 7.5 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2),  IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility Components is required.

To install the IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility Components by using the Windows Server 2008 Server Manager

  1. Click Start, click Administrative Tools and then Server Manager.
  2. In the left navigation pane, expand Roles, and then right-click Web Server (IIS) and select Add Role Services.
  3. On the Select Role Services pane, scroll down to IIS 6 Management Compatibility
  4. Select the check boxes for IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility and IIS 6 Management Console.
  5. Click Next from the Select Role Services pane, and then click Install at the Confirm Installations Selections pane.
  6. Click Close to leave the Add Role Services wizard.

To install the IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility Components by using the Windows 7 Control Panel

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Programs, click Programs and Features, and then click Turn Windows features on or off.
  2. Open Internet Information Services.
  3. Open Web Management Tools.
  4. Open IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility.
  5. Select the check boxes for IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility and IIS 6 Management Console.
  6. Click OK.

To install the IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility Components by using the Windows Vista Control Panel

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Programs and Features, and then click Turn Windows features on or off.
  2. Open Internet Information Services.
  3. Open Web Management Tools.
  4. Open IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility.
  5. Select the check boxes for IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility and IIS 6 Management Console.
  6. Click OK.

Housatonic Web Installation Steps  

If your system meets the requirements above, follow these steps to install the Housatonic Project Viewer on your server.

  1. Download the Installation Kit for Housatonic Project Viewer for Web Server, according to your hardware (32bit or 64bit) and language (i.e. HPVWeb_Trial_10.3.1_En.exe);
  2. Run the Installation Kit file (i.e. HPVWeb_Trial_10.3.1_En.exe);
  3. Read the License Agreement and select Accept if you want to continue;
  4. Enter your User Name and Company to match yours;
  5. Select installation path and click Next;
  6. In the IIS Configuration Page you will be able to set the site where the Housatonic Project Viewer should be installed. Notice that in Windows XP and Windows 2000 Professional, you may only install the application in the Default Web Site as a Virtual Folder. Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows 2003 and Windows 2000 Servers are also able to install the application as a Virtual Folder in an existing site, but they also have the possibility of installing it in the root of a New Web Site.
  7. Click Install and wait for setup to finalize settings;
  8. Click Finish to end the installation process.

To Uninstall Housatonic Project Viewer

To uninstall Housatonic open Start -> Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs . Select Housatonic Project Viewer then Remove.
